LeerVanRoos

Founding a leather workshop

After finishing my internship in Brasil I continued working in Espirito Santo do Turvo.
I laid the foundations for a leather workshop, since machines for treating leather, once used for a failed project, were rusting away.

In cooperation with the municipality I decided to start a social project which grew out to be group of women giving these machines a second life.

All leather used in this workshop is recycled leather; leftovers, picked up for free at shoe factories. Therefore every product is unique. The products made are environmental-friendly and by buying a product you take part in diminishes the waste of leather.

Nowadays 5 people are generating income thanks to this new artisan group, which is named LeerVanRoos.
The word 'leer' has a double meaning. First of all it's Dutch for leather, but it also can be interpreted as to learn.
